How does equity factor into this deck?
Each card is grounded in one or more principles of data equity and tagged accordingly. We encourage you to not only respond to the prompts on the cards, but also reflect upon how the principles show up in your work.
Principles:
Multiple Truths. We acknowledge that different people have different understandings of the root causes of problems, and that multiple truths open up possibilities for moving forward.
Shared Work + Knowledge. We position everyone involved as co-researchers and consider ourselves collectively responsible for moving to a new future based on the findings, although the level of effort may differ.
Complexity + Context. We build in checks around how we frame the research question, approach analysis, and present findings to understand context, structural/systemic root causes of issues, and how they are intertwined.
The How is as Important as the What. We take care and time to work in ways that are aligned with our values, build upon existing assets, and respond to community concerns.
Humans Over Data. We recognize our shared humanity and prioritize relationships with communities, collaborators, and ourselves over checking boxes.
